Matt enjoys a wide-ranging musical career. In September 2021 he was appointed to the position of Section Principal Clarinet with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. He also performs as guest principal with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Bath Festival Orchestra. He has appeared with the Riot Ensemble and Aurora Orchestra.
As a soloist, Matt won 1st prize in the Wind and Brass section of the 2018 Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition, won the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain’s Young Clarinettist Competition 2016 and was a wind finalist in the 2019 Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition. From 2015-2017, Matt performed with ‘Young Virtuosi’ chamber music festival in Southern France, and in the past 4 years he has performed at the Southwell Music Festival. Solo recital venues include St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’ Piccadilly, and the Royal Albert Hall Elgar Room. He has recently appeared as soloist in concertos by Mozart and Copland.
Matt was awarded a first class honours degree by the Royal College of Music, which he attended from 2016 to 2020. He studied with Timothy Lines, Barnaby Robson, Richard Hosford, Peter Sparks and Janet Hilton. His studies were generously supported by The Laurence Winston Scholarship.
